Resting energy expenditure in a cohort of female patients with bipolar disorder: indirect calorimetry vs Harris-Benedict, Mifflin-St. Jeor, LARN Equations

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Methods Seventeen female patients with bipolar I disorder were evaluated with an IC instrument (VO2000). IC values were compared with the Harris-Benedict, Mifflin-St. Jeor and LARN equation methods. Results The measured REE was not significantly correlated with the three equations. The mean differences between REE values estimated with Harris-Benedict, Mifflin-St. Jeor and LARN equations, and the value measured with IC was significantly different from zero. Moreover, a significant difference was found between the mean REE values measured with the IC and the mean values estimated with the three equations.

Comparison of Harris Benedict and Mifflin-ST Jeor equations with indirect calorimetry in evaluating resting energy expenditure.

BACKGROUND An understanding of energy expenditure in hospitalized patients is necessary to determine optimal energy supply. The metabolic rate can be measured or estimated by equations, but estimation is by far the most common method. AIM This study tests the degree of agreement between measured resting energy expenditure by indirect calorimetry and predicted resting energy expenditure by Har...

Comparison of predictive equations for resting energy expenditure among patients with schizophrenia in Japan

BACKGROUND Recently, a relationship between obesity and schizophrenia has been reported. The prediction of resting energy expenditure (REE) is important to determine the energy expenditure of patients with schizophrenia. However, there is a lack of research concerning the most accurate REE predictive equations among Asian patients with schizophrenia. The purpose of the study reported here was t...

Effectiveness of prediction equations in estimating energy expenditure sample of Brazilian and Spanish women with excess body weight.

OBJECTIVE To assess the adequacy of predictive equations for estimation of energy expenditure (EE), compared with the EE using indirect calorimetry in a sample of Brazilian and Spanish women with excess body weight. METHODS It is a cross-sectional study with 92 obese adult women [26 Brazilian -G1- and 66 Spanish - G2- (aged 20-50)]. Weight and height were evaluated during fasting for the calc...

The agreement between measured and predicted resting energy expenditure in patients with pancreatic cancer: a pilot study.

OBJECTIVE To compare measured resting energy expenditure to resting energy expenditure predicted from eight published prediction equations in a sample of patients with pancreatic cancer. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Ambulatory patients of a tertiary private hospital. PARTICIPANTS Eight patients with pancreatic cancer (5 males, 3 females; age: 62.0+/- 5.2 years; BMI: 24.4+/- 3.2 k...

Comparison of Predictive Equations for Resting Energy Expenditure in Overweight and Obese Adults

Objective. To compare values from predictive equations of resting energy expenditure (REE) with indirect calorimetry (IC) in overweight and obese adults. Methods. Eighty-two participants aged 30 to 60 years old were retrospectively analyzed. The persons had a body mass index ≥25 kg/m(2). REE was estimated by IC and other five equations of the literature (Harris and Benedict, WHO1, WHO2, Owen, M...
